What research has shown
Opuntia Ficus-Indica extract has multiple properties due to its complex of antioxidants, amino acids, fatty acids, and carotenoids. The antioxidant actions attributed to prickly pear fruit can be due to the presence of several compounds, namely vitamins, carotenoids, but also polyphenols and flavonoid compounds like quercetin, kaempferol and isorhamnetin. The anti-inflammatory properties of prickly pear are due to betanin and indicaxanthin. Neuroprotective effects are due to the presence of quercetin, dihydroquercetin and quercetin-3-methyl-ether.
